Anyone remember the Tigersaurus amplifiers from the 1970’s?
Anyone remember the Tigersaurus amplifiers from the 1970’s’? Designed by Dan Meyer, some had success with them, some got smoke from ’em. After looking at the circuit, here’s my take:-
Lament for a Tiger
Tiger tiger burning bright,
your output circuit is black as night.
Your front end looks not so great,
but its the overall oscillations that we hate!
They are, we fear, linked to that output stage
and that really shows your age
For the culrpit is that common output collector
that really screws your transfer vector.
We see excess gain and poles galore
and then, just when we thought it safe, even more!
No miller cap or degen, just like Doug told us
this, I tell you, is why there is a fuss!
So friends, lets ditch this burning design
and go for something a bit more benign.
Here’s the circuit and parts list. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!
